Pacific Ambassadors Leading Chief Petty Officer, Chief Musician (SW) Jose Acosta
Chief Musician (Surface Warfare) Jose L. Acosta, was born in Belize City, Belize although considers Miami, FL his home. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December of 2000 and attended Recruit Training in Great lakes, Illinois. Upon graduation, he attended Musician A school in Norfolk, VA and later reported to the Pacific Fleet Band in August of 2001, where he served five years. During his tour, he completed the sound reinforcement course at the School of Music in Norfolk, VA and was assigned to his first leadership position as unit leader for Tsunami.
Chief Acosta reported to SEVENTH Fleet Band in Yokosuka, Japan in December of 2005 and served as a saxophone instrumentalist. He also performed on flute and piccolo and was the sound technician for the Far East Edition big band. He was later assigned as the Unit Leader for Far East Edition. Prior to the end of his tour he received his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification and was meritoriously promoted to Musician First Class.
In 2010, he reported back to the School of Music for C school, where he attended the Unit Leader Course. Upon graduation he reported to Navy Band Southeast in September 2010. While there he served as Ceremonial Band Conductor, Leading Petty officer, and Operations Coordinator. He was selected for Chief Petty Officer in 2012. He left Navy Band Southeast and returned to the School of Music to attend the Senior Musician Course in September 2013. Upon graduation he reported back to SEVENTH Fleet Band for his current tour, where he is assigned as Leading Chief Petty Officer for Popular Music Group Orient Express.
Chief Acosta holds a Bachelor's Degree in Saxophone Performance and Conducting from Brevard College. His personal awards include Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (1 award), Good conduct Medal (4 awards).
