PACIFIC OCEAN (March 28, 2008) – A Sailor signals and prevents personnel from crossing while an F/A-18A+ Hornet engine is tested on the flight deck aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). PACIFIC OCEAN (March 28, 2008) – Marines, assigned to the “Red Devils” of the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 232, clean an F/A-18A+ Hornet on the flight deck aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). The strike groups are conducting combined training exercises in the Western Pacific. Kitty Hawk has been at sea training with the embarked Carrier Air Wing 5 since departing Yokosuka, Japan, March 18. Nimitz and Carrier Air Wing 11 departed on their scheduled deployment Jan. 24 from the ship's homeport of Naval Air Station North Island, Calif., in San Diego.
