YOKOSUKA, Japan (Jan. 31, 2012) - Sailors aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) adjust a watertight doorÕs hatch assembly during regularly scheduled preventive maintenance. Maintenance is completed on shipboard equipment to increase its lifespan and ensure it is working properly. George Washington returned to her forward-operating port of Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, November 22 after a nine-week patrol. George Washington is the Navy's only full-time forward-deployed aircraft carrier ensuring security and stability in the western Pacific Ocean.
