Rear Adm. John F. Weigold is a
Connecticut native and the son of a Navy UDT/Frogman veteran. He is a
1984 graduate of the United States Naval Academy, where he earned a
Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Science. He is also a graduate
of the Naval War College and the Joint Forces Staff College.
Following Surface Warfare Officer (Basic) School in Newport, Rhode
Island in 1984, he reported to USS JOHN KING (DDG 3) in Norfolk,
Virginia for tours as Gunnery Officer and Damage Control Assistant,
Auxiliaries and Electrical Officer. In 1987, reported on board USS
CARON (DD 970), also in Norfolk, Virginia, as Navigator and
Administration/Personnel Officer.
Weigold has commanded seven Reserve units, including USS BELKNAP (CG
26), Fleet Training Group Guantanamo Bay Detachment 102, Afloat
Training Group Mayport Detachment 201, U.S. Southern Command,
Amphibious Construction Battalion ONE Detachment 316, Commander, U.S.
SEVENTH Fleet, and U.S. European Command Detachment 0193. Other
reserve unit assignments include Iceland Defense Force and United
States Forces Korea Detachment 102.
Weigold was recalled to active duty in June 2006 as the Assistant
Chief of Staff for Operations (N3) for Commander, Naval Forces Korea
in Seoul, South Korea. He has also served on active duty in various
joint, combined and coalition activities and exercises throughout the
United States, Asia, South America, Europe, and the Atlantic, Pacific,
Mediterranean and Indian Oceans.
Weigold is a member of the Secretary of the Navy National Navy Reserve
Policy Board.
Among his military decorations, Weigold has been the recipient of the
Legion of Merit (2), Defense Meritorious Service Medal (3), the
Navy-Marine Corps Commendation Medal (2), the Army Commendation Medal,
the Navy-Marine Corps Achievement Medal, as well as various unit and
individual service awards.
Weigold is an Executive Recruiter and hails from Greenwich,
Connecticut.
