BALI, Indonesia - USS Chung-Hoon
sailors recently participated in two community service projects
while in Bali, Indonesia. Thirty-four Chung-Hoon Sailors went to
Jimbaran Beach, and with the help of 21 Indonesian Navy sailors, 10
Reef Check Indonesia members and 15 local fishermen, affected the
clean up May 27. Working tirelessly across approximately 2 miles of
beach, they collected more than 200 lbs of trash.
The next day, 19 Chung-Hoon Sailors went to Sanur Beach, along with
11 Indonesian Navy sailors, 7 Reef Check Indonesia members, and a
local scout troop. This beach was more of a boardwalk, approximately
1 mile long, consisting of a shore break, a paved path, and boat
landing. The group tackled this challenge head on, collecting more
than 210 lbs of trash.
For each of the events, Chung-Hoon Sailors were provided water and a
light snack. Smiling faces and high spirits were seen among the
Sailors while providing this service to a welcoming community. These
efforts helped greatly in restoring the cleanliness and natural
beauty of the beaches.
