Fleet Bandmaster, Lt.j.g. Luis E. Espinosa

Lieutenant Junior Grade Luis E. Espinosa is a native of Caguas, Puerto Rico and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 2002. Upon completion of recruit training, he proceeded to the Armed Forces School of Music (Little Creek, Virginia) where he was awarded the Navy musician designation as a clarinet and saxophone instrumentalist.

As an enlisted bandsman he served with Navy Band Great Lakes (Great Lakes, Illinois), the Naval Forces Europe Band (Naples, Italy), the U.S. Fleet Forces Band (Norfolk, Virginia), and as instructor for the Navy and Marine Corps music programs at the Naval School of Music (Little Creek, Virginia).

Following 13 years of distinguished enlisted service he was commissioned as a Limited Duty Officer, Bandmaster on December 2015. Reporting for duty as the Assistant Fleet Bandmaster for the U.S. Pacific Fleet Band (Pearl Harbor, Hawaii) he led the activity in the execution of over two thousand ceremonial and public outreach events in locations throughout the Indo-Asia Pacific; from Sri Lanka to Alaska. In July 2018 he reported to Yokosuka, Japan as Fleet Bandmaster for Commander, U.S. SEVENTH Fleet, embarked on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19).

His military decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), the Navy Good Conduct Medal (five awards), and several campaign and unit commendations. He holds Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in interdisciplinary studies from Liberty University (Lynchburg, Virginia) and is a graduate of the Naval School of Music Unit Leader Course.
