YOKOSUKA, Japan – Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson and Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy Steve Giordano will travel to Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) on Tuesday.
The purpose of their brief visit is to spend time with USS Fitzgerald Sailors and families to ensure they have the support and resources necessary in this time of need.
While in Japan, they will meet with host nation officials to thank the Japan Maritime Self Defense Force and Japan Coast Guard for their assistance in the immediate moments after the Fitzgerald collision.
Finally, Richardson and Giordano will speak with Yokosuka-based Sailors and the workers at the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center who are assisting with repairs on Fitzgerald, to thank them and to better understand the work that lies ahead.
While in Japan Richardson and Giordano will not hold any public events.
