FLEET ACTIVITIES YOKOSUKA, Japan –The commander of Submarine Group SEVEN/Task Force 54/Task Force 74 Rear Adm. Richard A. Correll was promoted to the rank of rear admiral upper half Nov. 2.
Vice Adm. Phil Sawyer, commander, U.S. 7th Fleet promoted Correll effective Nov. 1 during a ceremony at COMSUBGRU SEVEN Headquarters.
Correll thanked Sawyer for his leadership, and praised the Task Force 74 and Task Force 54 teams for their exceptional teamwork and commitment to the Navy’s mission in the SEVENTH and FIFTH fleets.
“I feel incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to continue to serve our Navy alongside the exceptional sailors and civilians that I have been privileged to serve with,” said Correll.
Correll commanded USS Topeka (SSN 754) and Submarine Squadron ELEVEN in San Diego. He also served on the USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730), USS Hyman G. Rickover (SSN 709) and USS Buffalo (SSN 715).
His staff assignments include duty at the U.S. Fleet Forces Command as the director of Joint and Maritime Operations (N3), Strategic Systems Programs Headquarters (SP-205), Naval Personnel Command (PERS-42), Naval Reactors Headquarters in the “Line Locker,” and an assignment on the staff of the Office of the Secretary of Defense as the
