FLEET ACTIVITIES YOKOSUKA, Japan – Members of Commander, Submarine
Group 7 (CSG-7) First Class Petty Officer Association (FCPOA) bought and wrapped
gifts for a holiday gift drive for 34 underprivileged children in the Yokohama area in
Japan on Dec. 5, 2017.
Out of 64 underprivileged children, CSG-7’s FCPOA sponsored 34 children from a
childcare center for the underprivileged children.
“We’ve received information through the [Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka Public
Affairs Office (CFAY PAO)] that there’s a low-income childcare center in the Yokohama
area that would appreciate some holiday spirit,” said Information Systems Technician
(Submarines) Christopher Simpson, who spearheaded the event.
FCPOA members purchased gifts out of their funds for the children of the childcare
center who were between the ages of one and six years old. Members also wrapped the
gifts before delivering them to CFAY PAO.
“We were able to buy more than $800 worth of gifts with funds from the FCPOA and
wrapped them for the children,” said Simpson.
Simpson, as well as many of the other FCPOA members, was delighted that he was able
to provide these children something for the holidays and made a difference in their lives.
“It’s exciting!” said Simpson. “It gives you a good feeling that you can go out there and
spread some love and make a difference in these kids’ days. While a lot of people aren’t
even able to afford one gift, we were able to donate more than $800 into all of this and
hopefully give these kids something that they will be able to enjoy for a while.”
