USS Mustin Arrives for Port Visit in Guam

By Petty Officer 2nd Class William G. McCann

APRA HARBOR, Guam -- The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89) arrived in Guam for a scheduled port visit, March 3.

"We are always happy to pull into Guam," said Cmdr. Warren D. Smith, Mustin's commanding officer. "The sunny weather is a nice retreat from the cold winter of Japan and our Sailors are excited to spend time with family and friends."

While in Guam, Mustin Sailors are able to experience the historic and cultural attractions on the island. Some crew members have volunteered for community service projects through the ship's Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) committee to develop relationships and get to know the local community.

"We encourage Sailors to sign up for community service events to support the local community," said Yeoman Seaman Apprentice Kevin Ball. "The MWR program also provides some great opportunities to go out and experience Guam."

Sailors have better access exploring the region with the help of the ship's MWR committee, or by heading out on their own to experience Guam with a friend.

"Guam is one of my favorite port visits," said Sonar Technician (Surface) 2nd Class Kate Haynes. " I love the weather. It's a great place to go snorkeling and enjoy the beach."

Mustin is in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific.
