Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group Conducts PASSEX with Indian Navy

By Mass Communication Specialist Seaman Michael Colemanberry, USS Theodore Roosevelt Public Affairs

INDIAN OCEAN -- The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group (TRCSG), led by Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 9, conducted a bilateral formation sail with the Indian Navy, March 25, upon their return to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations (AOO) as part of its regularly scheduled deployment.

The aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), along with the guided-missile destroyers USS Halsey (DDG 97) and USS Preble (DDG 88), conducted the formation sail with the Indian frigate INS Tarkash (F50).

"It was a fantastic day at sea to work alongside the Indian Navy at the start of our 7th Fleet operations," said Capt. Carlos Sardiello, Theodore Roosevelt's commanding officer. "There was excellent cooperation, communication and execution during this professional exchange. Events like these ensure our ability to work together seamlessly."

The TRCSG returned 7th Fleet after successfully completing more than four months in the Arabian Gulf and U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations supporting maritime security, theater security cooperation, and Operations Inherent Resolve and Freedom’s Sentinel.

"The strike group is extremely proficient and performing at an exceptional level," said Koehler. "We are prepared to conduct operations in 7th Fleet with the same persistence and flawless execution the strike group exhibited in 5th Fleet."

Roosevelt left its homeport of San Diego, Calif., Oct. 6 for a regularly-scheduled deployment to the U.S. 7th and 5th Fleet areas of responsibility.
