YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) – The 2018 Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) Summit concluded in Yokosuka, Japan, April 20 after a week of discussions, lessons and career advancement initiatives.
The SWO Summit is designed to facilitate meaningful, tactical discussions across warfare areas for senior and junior officers, as well as provide an opportunity for networking and personal growth.
“The SWO Summit is a valuable opportunity for all of us to build tactical expertise and SWO knowledge, talk to detailers, and to spend some time with your fellow Surface Warfare Officers,” said Rear Adm. Marc Dalton, commander, Task Force 70. “I’m a big believer in professional growth and development.”
The SWO Summit began April 9 and included visits from representatives from the Navy Personnel Command, and various discussions tailored towards tactics, new initiatives and continuing adaptation in the Surface Warfare community.
Surface Warfare Officers from Commander, Task Force 70, Commander, Task Force 74, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19), USS Antietam (CG 54), USS Chancellorsville (CG 62), USS Shiloh (CG 67), Afloat Training Group Western Pacific, Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Detachment Yokosuka and Tactical Training Group Pacific (TTGP) Detachment Yokosuka, participated in the event.
The 2018 SWO Summit is the latest iteration of the annual week-long event hosted for the forward-deployed Surface Warfare Officers in the Yokosuka, Japan area.
