YOKOSUKA, Japan (NNS) – Commander, Task Force (CTF) 70 participated in Fleet Synthetic
Training-Joint (FST-J) 18-72 in-port Yokosuka, Japan, from April 20-27.
FST-J, a computer-based synthetic training, was designed so geographically separated units can
integrate in a tactically and operationally demanding virtual environment.
FST-J 18-72 included units from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps,
Royal Australian Navy and Royal Australian Air Force. The U.S. Navy units included CTF 70,
CTF 72, CTF 73, CTF 74, CTF 76 and Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11.
FST-J is an exercise built to test a Carrier Strike Group’s ability to execute tactics, techniques
and procedures in the face of real-world events in a simulated arena.
"FST-J is a valuable opportunity to build and test our tactical expertise," said Rear Adm. Marc
Dalton, Commander, Task Force 70. "The complex, multi-domain scenario challenged and
tested our teams to execute our missions and adapt to dynamic situations. We appreciate the
hard work it takes to develop and execute FST-J."
Tactical Training Group, Pacific provided the distributed training environment to the CTF 70
personnel involved with FST-J 18-72.
FST-J is one of many exercises the U.S. Navy and other units participate in to maintain
maximum proficiency and cooperation.
CTF 70 is embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) forward-deployed
to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operation in support of security and stability in the Indo-Pacific
region.
