Commodore, DESRON 15 Visits Stockdale

By Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Abigayle Lutz

PHILIPPINE SEA — Capt. Jon Duffy, commodore, Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, visited the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Stockdale (DDG 106), Nov. 14.

During the visit, Duffy toured Stockdale and spoke with Sailors, discussed his standards and area of operations with the command triad, and held chief and officer training on leadership during crisis.

“Stockdale was pleased to have our operational commander onboard,” said Cmdr. Leonard Leos, Stockdale commanding officer. “Commodore Duffy got to see my Sailors in action, carrying out national tasking, working with allies, while sailing where international law allows. His training on leadership during crisis was in keeping with Vice Adm. Stockdale’s example: ‘During crisis take charge, innovate to succeed, never quit, and return with honor.’ We are proud to work for DESRON 15 as part of the Battle Force, 7th Fleet.”

As the DESRON 15 commodore, Duffy serves as the Immediate Superior in Command of the ships assigned to the squadron.

DESRON 15 is the Navy's largest forward-deployed Destroyer Squadron and is responsible for the readiness, tactical and administrative responsibilities for eight Arleigh Burke class destroyers to include USS Barry (DDG 52), USS Benfold (DDG 65), USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54), USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), USS McCampbell (DDG 85), USS Milius (DDG 69), USS Mustin (DDG 89) and USS Stethem (DDG 63).

Stockdale is underway and conducting operations, in international waters as part of a dual carrier strike force exercise. The U.S. Navy has patrolled the Indo-Pacific region routinely for more than 70 years promoting regional security, stability and prosperity.
