ASAN, Guam (May 24, 2019) - Joint Region Marianas (JRM) hosted the seventh Annual Programmatic Agreement (PA) Workshop at the Sen. Antonio M. Palomo Guam Museum and Education Facility in Hagatna May 23-24.
The workshop was an opportunity for all parties to evaluate important achievements, assign tasks and review outstanding requirements since the signing of the 2011 PA.
Capt. Dan Turner, Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas commanding officer, discussed the successes of the PA within the last year including the Guam cultural repository, nominations of historic sites to the National Register, and JRM's 2018 agreement with the Guam State Historic Preservation Officer to resolve issues pertaining to historic property identification.
"We should remind ourselves that these successes began with a challenge that we had to work through together to reach our goal of mutually beneficial outcomes," he said. "Our ability to be faithful to the PA, yet able to adapt over the years demonstrates our collective efforts toward inclusiveness, collaboration and focus on productive outcomes."
During the two-day workshop participating parties focused on best ways to preserve, protect and learn from Guam's cultural resources, and toured historic sites on U.S. Naval Base Guam and Andersen Air Force Base.
