NAVAL BASE GUAM, Guam – The Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USSFitzgerald (DDG 62) arrived in Guam, Mar. 4.
The port visit will provide Fitzgerald Sailors a time to unwind and the opportunity to explore Guam and learn about its culture.
“Guam provides our Sailors with the opportunity to visit some historic places from our Navy heritage,” said Master Chief Brice Baldwin, command Master Chief ofFitzgerald. “As well as enjoy the warmer weather and water around Guam.”
Fitzgerald’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) committee organized several tours in order to help make the crews’ Guam experience as rewarding as possible.
“Fitzgerald Sailors will get to experience some of the heritage of Guam,” said Chief Cryptologic Technician Darren Pierson. “Sailors will also learn about the culture in Guam.
”For some of the Fitzgerald Sailors this will be their first opportunity to visit Guam.
“It’s my first time going to Guam,” said Ship’s Serviceman 2nd Class Curtis Presley. “Iam looking forward to experiencing a different culture and really looking forward toseeing the beaches.
”The ship’s port visit offers the Sailors a break before participating in the semi-annual exercise Multi Sail 2016, just off the coast of Guam.
Fitzgerald is on patrol in the 7th Fleet area of operations in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific.
