YOKOSUKA, Japan –

On March 16, 2024, Gunner's Mate 3rd Class Elijah Riddle, assigned to USS Halsey (DDG 97) was found unresponsive in their berthing while underway in the Indian Ocean. Efforts to revive the Sailor were unsuccessful, and they were subsequently pronounced deceased. A Special Psychiatric Rapid Intervention Team (SPRINT) has been deployed to the ship and grief and counseling services are being provided to our Sailors.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sailor’s family, friends, and coworkers during this time. The circumstances of the death are currently under investigation.
