ROME –
Members of the U.S. 7th Fleet took part in staff talks with members of the Italian Navy’s Commander in Chief Naval Fleet (CINCNAV) as part of a leadership engagement aboard the Santa Rosa Navy Compound, Jan. 11-12.
U.S. 7th Fleet leaders met with their CINCNAV counterparts to discuss shared maritime security challenges and ways to advance interoperability between the two navies.
"We're really grateful for the chance to sit down with our Italian partners and have such fruitful dialogue about deepening our partnership and interoperability among our respective navies,” said Capt. Tuan Nguyen, director, U.S. 7th Fleet Theater Security Cooperation. “We look forward to future opportunities to work together and continue to find ways to enhance our shared capabilities."
Over the course of two days of roundtable discussions, leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening maritime-based security cooperation through increased warfighting interoperability, communications and information sharing.
U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
