Makin Island ARG Conducts Balikatan with the Armed Forces of the Philippines

Amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8), amphibious transport docks USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), expeditionary mobile base USS Miguel Keith (ESB 5), and Philippine navy ships BRP Jose Rizal (FF-150), BRP Gregorio Del Pilar (PS 15), and BRP Tarlac (FF 601) transit the South China Sea for Balikatan 23, April 19, 2023. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military designed to strengthen bilateral interoperability, capabilities, trust, and cooperation built over decades of shared experiences. The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of Makin Island, Anchorage, and John P. Murtha, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations with the embarked 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region. USS Makin Island Changes Command

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored naval tradition which formally proclaims the continuity and authority of command to the officers, men and women of the command. Kim Myung-soo are greeted for a shipboard tour at the 2023 Fleet Commanders’ Roundtable Discussion hosted aboard ROKS Hansando (ATH-81) in Busan, Republic of Korea, April 21. The meeting provided a forum to engage in professional dialogues on regional security challenges and maritime operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with Allies and partners to preserve a free and open Indo-Pacific.
USS Nimitz Records 350,000th Arrested Landing

CSG 7 Holds 123rd Submarine Birthday Ball in Yokosuka

Command Master Chief (retired) Andy Arena, the guest of honor, is awarded a plaque by Commander, Submarine Group (CSG) 7 Command Master Chief Brett Jackson and Rear Adm. Rick Seif, commander, Submarine Group 7, for 50 years of combined military and civilian service in the submarine community during the 123rd Submarine Birthday Ball at Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka, April 21. The ball was coordinated by CSG 7, which directs forward-deployed, combat capable forces across the full spectrum of undersea warfare throughout the Western Pacific, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Sea.
