Pacific Partnership 2016 Completes Palau Mission

(July 21, 2016) Cmdr. John Cason (Left), an optomologist, and Capt. Sayjel Patel, an optomologist, both assigned to hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19) and local Vietnamese optomologists perform eye surgery on a Vietnamese man aboard Mercy. Pacific Partnership and local Vietnamese doctors worked side-by-side during four different surgeries exchanging best practices, ideas and methods of treatment. Mercy is joined in Da Nang by JS Shimokita (LST-4002) and Vietnam People's Navy ship Khánh Hóa for Pacific Partnership. Partner nations are working side-by-side with organizations to conduct cooperative health engagements, community relation events and subject matter expert exchanges to better prepare for natural disaster or crisis.

The mission of the Great Green Fleet is to demonstrate how energy efficient systems and procedures, and the use of alternative energy contribute to combat capability, resiliency and flexibility in the operational environment.
