USS America pulls into Changi Naval Base to support USS John S. McCain

Amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6) transits off the coast of Southern California while conducting flight operations, April 3, 2017. America is currently underway with more than 1,000 Sailors and 1,600 embarked Marines conducting Amphibious Squadron/Marine Expeditionary Unit Integration operations in preparation for the ship’s maiden deployment later this year.

The USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) flanks the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) for a replenishment at sea (RAS) in the Pacific Ocean, June 12, 2017. A RAS is a resupply of fuel or supplies from ship to ship while underway. The 31st MEU partners with the Navy’s Amphibious Squadron 11 to form the amphibious component of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group. The 31st MEU and PHIBRON 11 combine to provide a cohesive blue-green team capable of accomplishing a variety of missions across the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
