YOKOSUKA, Japan (Feb. 17, 2022) The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, the U.S. ambassador to Japan, walks through sideboys in the ceremonial quarterdeck of the U.S. Navy’s only forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). During his visit, Emanuel toured Ronald Reagan, addressed the crew, and served as the keynote speaker in a naturalization ceremony where 17 candidates from 11 different countries became American citizens. 31st MEU conducts VBSS training aboard USS Miguel Keith in support of exercise Noble Fusion

PHILIPPINE SEA (Feb. 5, 2022) U.S. Marines with Maritime Raid Force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conduct a patrol through the cargo bay aboard the USS Miguel Keith (ESB 5) during a Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) during operation Noble Fusion in the Philippine Sea, Feb. 5, 2022. VBSS training reinforces the Marine Corps’ presence within ocean waters by having a team at the ready to act in a moment’s notice. Noble Fusion demonstrates that Navy and Marine Corps forward-deployed stand-in naval expeditionary forces can rapidly aggregate Marine Expeditionary Unit/Amphibious Ready Group teams at sea, along with a carrier strike group, joint forces and allies in order to conduct lethal sea-denial operations, seize key maritime terrain, guarantee freedom of movement, and create advantage for US, partner and allied forces. Miguel Keith, assigned to Expeditionary Strike Group 7, is currently operating as the Theater Littoral Warfare Commander's flagship in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
