U. S. Navy and Royal Australian Air Force Conduct First Cooperative Air-to-Air Refueling

Pilots Lt. Cmdr. Mark Lascara and Lt. Thomas Coffin observe Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) KC-30A Air to Air Refueling their U.S. Navy (USN) P-8A during an evolution for the Royal Australian Navy Fleet Certification Period. This was the first ever evolution between a RAAF KC-30A and a USN P-8A in an operational setting. VP-47 conducts maritime patrol and reconnaissance as well as theater outreach operations as part of a rotational deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.

U.S., Japan, Australia Conduct Trilateral Naval Training in South China Sea

SOUTH CHINA SEA (March 15, 2022) The guided-missile destroyer USS Momsen (DDG 92), Royal Australian Navy Anzac-class frigate HMAS Arunta (FFH 151), and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Murasame-class guided missile destroyer JS Yuudachi (DD 103) transit the South China Sea during a trilateral training event. Momsen is assigned to Commander, Task Force 71/Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, the Navy's largest forward-deployed DESRON and the U.S. 7th Fleet's principal fighting force, and is underway supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific. U.S. Navy and JMSDF Join Forces for Bilateral Advanced Warfare Training 2022

PACIFIC OCEAN (March 1, 2022) U.S. Marine Capt. Austin Branch, left, from Coronado, California, and U.S. Navy Lt. Dillon Duke, from Edmond, Oklahoma, both assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps Fifth Air Naval Gun Liaison Company (5th ANGLICO), conduct  Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS) communication drills with the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) in the Combat Information Center aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Dewey (DDG 105) while participating in bilateral advanced warfare training (BAWT). BAWT is an annual bilateral training exercise that improves the partnership between U.S. and Japanese Forces. U.S. Navy Recovers F-35C from South China Sea

U.S. 7th Fleet’s Task Force (CTF) 75 and Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), embarked aboard the U.S. Navy-contracted diving support vessel (DSCV) Picasso, successfully retrieved the F-35C Lightning II aircraft that crashed during routine flight operations earlier this year in the South China Sea, March 2. CTF 75 and the NAVSEA’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving embarked Picasso to oversee the safe recovery of the aircraft and delivery to a nearby naval base for continued investigation.

Exercise Milan 2022 is a biennial Indian Navy-hosted multilateral exercise that the U.S. is participating in for the first time. This year’s exercise is focused on enhancing professional interaction between professional navies and gaining experience in multilateral large force operations at sea.
