USS Sampson Supports Disaster Relief Efforts in Tonga with International Forces

An MH-60R Seahawk Helicopter assigned to the "Scorpions" of Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron (HSM) 49 prepares for take-off from the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Sampson (DDG 102) as the ship is positioned to conduct lifesaving actions in support of disaster relief efforts in Tonga. The Australian Government response is being coordinated closely with France and New Zealand under the FRANZ partnership; alongside Fiji, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States, to assist Tonga in its time of need. Sampson is on a scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with alliances and partnerships while serving as a ready-response force in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

A diver from the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN) Underwater Construction Team (UCT) conducts underwater exothermic cutting during the Multinational Underwater Repair Exercise (MUREX) 2021 in Apra Harbor, Guam, Dec. 21, 2021. This RIP/TOA marked the official completion of NMCB-5's deployment in the region. NMCB-5 is homeported in Port Hueneme, California. US Navy Seabees in Timor-Leste hold multinational ribbon-cutting ceremony

BAUCAU, Timor-Leste (Dec. 10, 2021) Lt. Megan Dunton, with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5; Thomas Daley, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affairs; and local Timorese leaders cut the ribbon at the completion of the four-room schoolhouse in Baucau, Timor-Leste. The U.S. Navy Seabees with NMCB-5 are deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, supporting a free and open Indo-Pacific, strengthening their alliances and partnerships, and providing general engineering and civil support to joint operational forces. Homeported out of Port Hueneme, California, NMCB-5 has 13 detail sites deployed throughout the U.S. and Indo-Pacific area of operations.
