CVW-5 Conducts Change of Command

PHILIPPINE SEA (August 2, 2019) Capt. Forrest Young, Commander, Carrier Air Wing 5, prepares for an in-flight change of command ceremony aboard the Navy’s forward-deployed aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Young was relieved as commanding officer of Carrier Air Wing (CAG) 5 by Capt. Michael Rovenolt. Ronald Reagan, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group Five, provides a combat-ready force that protects and defends the collective maritime interests of its allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.

US, Indonesia Begin Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training 2019

HSC-25 Rescues Distressed Sailor at Sea

PACIFIC OCEAN (July 24, 2019) Naval Air Crewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class Preston Smith, from Stevens Point, Wisconsin, and assigned to the “Island Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25, swims toward a civilian in distress aboard a sailboat during a search and rescue mission near Guam. HSC-25 provides a multi-mission rotary wing capability for units in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations and maintains a Guam-based 24-hour search-and-rescue and medical evacuation capability, directly supporting U.S. Coast Guard and Joint Region Marianas. HSC-25 is the Navy’s only forward-deployed MH-60S expeditionary squadron.

Wasp Amphibious Ready Group Ends Talisman Sabre with Port Visits

CAIRNS, Australia (July 26, 2019) The amphibious transport dock ship USS Green Bay (LPD 20) arrives in Cairns, Australia for a scheduled port visit. Green Bay, part of the Wasp Expeditionary Strike Group, with embarked 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, participated in Talisman Sabre 2019 off the coast of Northern Australia. A bilateral, biennial event, Talisman Sabre is designed to improve U.S. and Australian combat training, readiness and interoperability through realistic, relevant training necessary to maintain regional security, peace and stability.
