The U.S. Navy's forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), departs Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka for its 2017 patrol. FLEACT Yokosuka provides, maintains, and operates base facilities and services in support of 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, 71 tenant commands, and 26,000 military and civilian personnel, May 16, 2017.

YOKOSUKA, Japan (June 18, 2017) – Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin speaks to members of the press about the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62) which was involved in a collision with a merchant vessel. The Fitzgerald suffered severe damage but returned to Fleet Activities (FLEACT) Yokosuka under its own power. The incident is currently under investigation. The Ronald Reagan and Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Groups conduct maritime training operations with Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force ships, JS Hyuga (DDH 181) and JS Ashigara (DDG178). JMSDF and U.S. Navy forces routinely train together to improve interoperability and readiness to provide stability and security for the Indo-Asia Pacific region.
