15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island ARG enhance bilateral partnership in Indo-Pacific Region

A U.S. Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II assigned to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, takes off from the flight deck of the amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8). The Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and embarked 15th MEU are operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

SOUTH CHINA SEA (April 9, 2021) – The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group transits in formation with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group in the South China Sea April 9, 2021. The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group, Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group and the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Port Royal (CG 73) are conducting expeditionary strike force operations during their deployments to the 7th Fleet area of operations. YOKOSUKA, Japan (March 18, 2021) — Cmdr. Terry McNamara, chief staff officer for Commander, Fleet Activities Yokosuka (CFAY) receives his one-shot Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine from Mercedes Fritz, a residency nurse with American Red Cross Yokosuka, during a vaccine distribution at CFAY’s Hawk’s Nest. Service members assigned to CFAY and tenant commands received the one-shot vaccine during the vaccine distribution.  For more than 75 years, CFAY has provided, maintained, and operated base facilities and services in support of the U.S. 7th Fleet's forward-deployed naval forces, tenant commands, and thousands of military and civilian personnel and their families. Multinational Naval Forces Conduct Exercise La Perouse

BAY OF BENGAL (April 5, 2021) Ships operate in the Bay of Bengal in support of exercise La Perouse 2021, April 5. La Perouse consists of naval assets from Australia, France, India, Japan and the United States. La Perouse is an exercise conducted during the annual French Navy midshipman deployment called Mission Jeanne d'Arc. The exercise is designed to conduct training, enhance cooperation in  maritime surveillance, maritime interdiction operations, and air operations. As the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed fleet, 7th Fleet employs 50-70 ships and submarines across the Western Pacific and Indian oceans. Commander, 7th Fleet Visits Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni

U.S. Navy Vice Admiral Bill Merz, left, commander of 7th Fleet, participates in a tour of MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, Apr. 1, 2021. Leadership made visits with squadrons that make up Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5, including the "Tigertails" of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron (VAW) 125 and the "Shadowhawks" of Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 141, as well as other tenant commands. The purpose of the visit was to focus on engaging with the forward deployed naval forces that support the fleet.
