Naval Forces Korea Welcomes Congressional Study Group to Busan

BUSAN, Republic of Korea (March 6, 2019) Rear Adm. Michael E. Boyle, commander, U.S. Naval Forces Korea (CNFK), meets with members of the Congressional Study Group on Korea (CSGK), from left: Tim Butler, Matthew Ceccato, Jason Ross and Alice Johnson. This was CSGK's first visit to CNFK, and it provided an opportunity for Boyle to explain the CNFK role in maintaining and strengthening the Republic of Korea-U.S. alliance.

7th Fleet Officer selected as 2019 Copernicus Award Winner

7th Fleet Communications Officer Lt. Christopher R. Jennings, from Joplin, Missouri, was awarded the Copernicus Award, which recognizes individual contributions to Naval Warfare in the disciplines of Command, Control, Communications, Computers, and Intelligence (C4I), Information Systems or Information Warfare (IW).

7th Fleet Musician Recieves National Outstanding Musician Award

Blue Ridge, with embarked 7th Fleet staff, is on its first patrol in over two years, strengthening relationships with U.S. allies and partner nations while providing advanced communication capabilities and supporting Theater Security Cooperation across the Indo-Asia Pacific region.

HSC-25 Aids Cruise Ship Passenger

PACIFIC OCEAN (Mar. 04, 2019) Naval Air Crewman (Helicopter) 2nd Class Ty Nichols, assigned to the “Island Knights” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 25, is lowered to the deck of the MV Arcadia to provide emergency assistance to a cruise passenger in distress during a MEDEVAC. HSC-25 provides a multi-mission rotary wing capability for units in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations and maintains a Guam-based 24-hour search-and-rescue and medical evacuation capability, directly supporting U.S. Coast Guard and Joint Region Marianas. HSC-25 is the Navy’s only forward-deployed MH-60S expeditionary squadron.

US, Australian, Indonesian Sailors Commemorate WWII Battle of Sunda Strait

SUNDA STRAIT (March 1, 2019) U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Joseph Donovan Jr. greets Lt. Cmdr. Joshua Cowart, executive officer of the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Chief (MCM 14) prior to a memorial service aboard the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) ship Kri Usman Harun (359). The ceremony was held to honor the American and Australian crews of USS Houston (CA 30) and HMAS Perth (D 29) that lost their lives in battle against the Japanese Imperial Navy during World War II.

USS Chief visits Jakarta

JAKARTA, Indonesia (Feb. 26, 2019) Lt. Cmdr. Fred Crayton, commanding officer of the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Chief (MCM 14), briefs Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) sailors about minesweeping equipment during a tour of the ship. Chief is visiting Jakarta while operating in U.S. 7th Fleet to work with their Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL) counterparts to strengthen regional security and stability, and enhance interoperability.

USS Santa Fe Arrives in Stirling, Australia

USS Santa Fe (SSN 763) joins Royal Australian Navy Collins Class Submarines HMAS Collins, HMAS Farncomb, HMAS Dechaineux and HMAS Sheean in formation in the West Australian Exercise Area. Royal Australian Navy Collins Class Submarines HMAS Collins, HMAS Farncomb, HMAS Dechaineux and HMAS Sheean were joined in formation by United States Navy Submarine USS Santa Fe in the West Australian Exercise Area for a PHOTOEX in February 2019. The submarines were in the area to participate in a number of activities, including Exercise Lungfish 2019 and Exercise Ocean Explorer 2019.
