French submarine deployment to Western Pacific presents rare training opportunity for Guam-based boat

WATERS OFF GUAM (Dec. 11, 2020) The Los Angeles-class fast-attack submarine USS Asheville (SSN 758), right, and the French Navy Rubis-class nuclear powered submarine (SSN) Émeraude steam in formation off the coast of Guam during a photo exercise. Asheville and Émeraude practiced high-end maritime skills in a multitude of disciplines designed to enhance interoperability between maritime forces. Asheville is one of four forward-deployed submarines assigned to Commander, Submarine Squadron 15.

TSUSHIMA STRAIT (Dec. 15, 2020) - The Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship USNS Alan Shepard (T-AKE 3) conducts routine operations during a freedom of navigation operation in the vicinity of the Tsushima Strait. The ship conducted normal operations within Japan’s claimed territorial seas to challenge excessive maritime claims and preserve access and navigational freedoms consistent with international law. U.S., Singapore Militaries Join for Bilateral Amphibious Training during CARAT Exercise

SINGAPORE (Dec. 9, 2020) - U.S., Singapore discuss a shared commitment towards regional maritime security and stability while planning for amphibious interoperability training at sea during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Singapore. This year marks the 26th iteration of CARAT, a multinational exercise designed to enhance U.S. and partner navies' abilities to operate together in response to traditional and non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.

Royal Australian Navy, Royal Canadian Navy, and Royal Canadian Air Force Join U.S. Forces for Fleet Synthetic Training

Zack Lukens, from Port Charlotte, Fla., left, and  Sonar Technician (Surface) 1st Class Tyler Davis, from Lemoore Calif., assigned to Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 15, serve as the Sea Combat tactical watch standers during Fleet Synthetic Training - Joint (FST-J) exercise aboard USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). FST-J is a week-long exercise that brings together multiple units from across the globe to train together in a virtual environment. As the U.S. Navy's largest forward deployed fleet, U.S. 7th Fleet routinely operates between 50-70 ships and submarines and 140 aircraft with approximately 20,000 Sailors. 7th Fleet's area of operation spans more than 124 million square kilometers, stretching from the International Date Line to the India/Pakistan border; and from the Kuril Islands in the North to the Antarctic in the South Pacific, providing security and stability to the region. 7th Fleet interacts with 35 other maritime nations to build partnerships that foster maritime security while conducting a wide-range of missions to support humanitarian efforts and uphold international laws and freedoms of the sea. 7th Fleet Patrol Aircraft Supports Search and Rescue

PACIFIC OCEAN (Nov. 30, 2020) - A US Navy P-8A Poseidon aircraft from Patrol Squadron (VP) 5, the "Mad Foxes" assisted in locating a vessel Nov. 30 that had been missing for three days near the island of Saipan. The VP-5 aircraft located the vessel Nov. 30, and remained on station until a U.S. Coast Guard vessel and a merchant vessel arrived to assist in rescue efforts. Nimitz Carrier Strike Group Concludes Cooperative Deployment with Royal Australian Navy

INDIAN OCEAN (Nov. 23, 2020) The Royal Australian Navy Anzac-class frigate HMAS Ballarat (FFH 155) steams alongside the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as an F/A-18F Super Hornet, assigned to the "Mighty Shrikes" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 94, launches off the flight deck of the Nimitz. Nimitz, the flagship of Carrier Strike Group 11, is deployed conducting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts.

USS John S. McCain conducts Freedom of Navigation Operation
