JMSDF Leadership Visits Commander, U.S. Seventh Fleet

Hideki Yuasa, commander in chief, Self Defense Fleet, Japan Maritime Self Defense Force, (center right) visits the Enforcement Coordination Cell (ECC) watch floor alongside members of his team and U.S. 7th Fleet ECC Director, Capt. James J. Mehail, during a visit to the 7th Fleet command ship, USS Blue Ridge (LCC 19). As the U.S. Navy’s largest forward-deployed fleet, there are roughly 50-70 ships and submarines, 150 aircraft, and approximately 20,000 Sailors operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations.

U.S., Japan, Australia Conduct Trilateral Naval Exercises in South China Sea

SOUTH CHINA SEA (Oct. 20, 2020) - The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56) (rear), Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) ship JS Kirisame (DD 104) (middle), and Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Arunta (FFH 151) (front) sail together in the South China Sea during multinational exercises. These exercises marked the fifth time of 2020 that Australia, Japan, and the U.S. have conducted operations together in the 7th Fleet area of operations.

Valiant Shield is a U.S. only, biennial field training exercise (FTX) with a focus on integration of joint training in a blue-water environment among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.

CTF 75 Participates in EOD SME Exchange for CARAT Brunei

SANTA RITA, Guam (Oct. 6, 2020) Explosive Ordnance Disposal technicians assigned to the Task Group 75.1 EOD capability of Task Force 75 participate in a virtual subject matter expert exchange with troop commanders from the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) during Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) Brunei 2020. This year marks the 26th iteration of CARAT, a multinational exercise designed to enhance U.S. and partner navies' abilities to operate together in response to traditional and non-traditional maritime security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
